Karl Lauterbach Backs AI in the Healthcare Sector

Updated: Jul 19

Hospitals, research institutions and medical companies are using AI technologies to improve various aspects of patient care, such as diagnoses, treatments and drug development. These technologies are increasingly being integrated into everyday medical practice and are helping to increase the efficiency and quality of healthcare.

Now, also the German Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach is speaking out in favor of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the digitized healthcare system. He made the announcement at the opening of the DMEA digital health fair in Berlin in April: Lauterbach emphasized that AI's pattern recognition, which is superior to that of humans, enables diseases to be detected much earlier than before, allowing patients to receive even more personalized treatment and minimizing costs. Lauterbach pointed out that a corresponding health policy strategy has been pursued since this legislative period with regard to the use of data required for AI applications. This is called “AI-in-all-policies” with a focus on biomedical research.

And we agree: AI is definitely a driving factor in the future of healthcare and will revolutionize every part of the sector!

3 Advantages of AI in the Healthcare Sector:

  • Earlier diagnosis & preventive medicine: AI can analyze large amounts of patient data to detect patterns and anomalies that may be overlooked by doctors. This allows diseases to be detected earlier and preventative measures to be taken in time, ultimately leading to improved health and a higher survival rate.

  • Personalized medicine: By analyzing genomic data, medical histories and other individual health data, AI can create personalized treatment plans that are tailored to the needs of each individual patient. This can ensure more effective treatment and minimize side effects.

  • Increased efficiency: AI can automate administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling, billing and patient documentation, reducing the workload for medical staff and increasing overall efficiency in the healthcare sector. This allows professionals to focus more on direct patient care.

A study estimates that the use of AI in healthcare could lead to total cost savings of 150 billion US dollars worldwide by 2026. We as IQONIC.AI also rely on the use of AI in the healthcare sector. What about your company?
